Vaganza, an American theatrical art-rock-pop duo consisting of multi-instrumentalists David Longworth Wallingford and Quigley, formed in late 1991 following the dissolution of their respective indie groups, Astronaut and Skunk. The pair began working on the Vaganza project in seclusion for roughly two years, developing a sound that significantly departed from their previous ventures. Their first unofficial release was a 1993 demo entitled "Are You Willing to Die for Rock 'n' Roll?". This demo generated industry buzz and eventually landed them a contract with Elektra Records in April 1994. The duo's self-titled debut album, released on Outpost Recordings in April 1998, featured contributions from notable musicians such as Joey Waronker. Despite mixed-to-favorable reviews, the album went largely unnoticed upon release. Vaganza assembled a 10-piece live band and performed several shows in New York City during the summer of 1998, though they were dropped by Outpost in autumn of that year. Vaganza disbanded in December 1998 for undisclosed reasons.
