Uncle Earl, an American old-time music group, was formed in 2000 by KC Groves and Jo Serrapere to promote a CD of traditional material. The band's name honored figures like Earl Scruggs and Steve Earle. In 2002, they released their debut album She Went Upstairs.... By late 2003, the lineup stabilized with KC Groves on mandolin and guitar, Abigail Washburn on banjo, Rayna Gellert on fiddle, and Kristin Andreassen as guitarist and fiddler. The band signed with Rounder Records in 2005, releasing their first full-length album She Waits for Night. Their second album, Waterloo, Tennessee, was produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and followed in 2007. In 2010, Rayna Gellert and Abigail Washburn left the group.
