TRS-80, an electronic music group from Chicago, was formed in 1997 by Kent Rayhill and Jay Rajeck. The duo, later joined by Deb Schimmel, performed using real drums and synthesizers. Their first live performance occurred in 1998 at Double Door in Chicago, opening for Death In Vegas. TRS-80 performed at venues like The Empty Bottle and Metro, and released their debut EP Radiograbadora in 1998. Over the next five years, they worked with two local record labels, releasing four albums including Industry Needs Electronic Skills (1999) and The Manhattan Love Machine (2000). In 2005, Rayhill and Schimmel retired from performing, leading Rajeck to continue TRS-80 with new members. Releases include Mystery Crash (2006) and The New You EP (2008), which featured music in the video game Saints Row 2.
