The Trondheim Symphony Orchestra & Opera, based in Trondheim, Norway, was established in 1909. The orchestra's precursor ensemble held its inaugural concert on December 10, 1909, at the Frimurerlogen with an ensemble of 29 players. Through the 1930s, the orchestra saw increased financial support and better-trained musicians, leading to more frequent performances. During World War II, the orchestra continued its activities under German occupation, performing in various Trondheim churches. Post-war, the orchestra returned to Frimurerlogen until 1989 when it moved to the Olavshallen. Notable chief conductors include Morten Svendsen and Han-na Chang, who served from 2017 until her tenure concluded at the end of the 2024â2025 season. Adam Hickox was appointed as the next chief conductor, effective with the 2025â2026 season.
