Biography

Trio Vegabajeño, a Puerto Rican musical group from Vega Baja, was formed in 1943 by Fernandito Álvarez. Their first recording was "Llanto de mar" that same year. In 1945, Pepito Maduro joined, shifting the lineup to all singers. The group's theme song, "Tema - Trío Vegabajeño", highlighted their origins. In 1952, Jorge Hernandez joined as the requinto player, forming one of their most successful lineups. Notable albums include Canta El Trio Vegabajeño (c. 1952) and its subsequent volumes. Their song "En mi Viejo San Juan" became widely known globally after its release in 1943. The group was inducted into the International Latin Music Hall of Fame in 2002.
