Biography
Toy Dolls, an English punk rock band, were formed in October 1979 in Sunderland, United Kingdom. The original lineup included Pete Zulu on bass and guitar, Michael "Olga" Algar on guitar and vocals, Flip on bass, and Mr. Scott on drums. Their first concert took place at the Millview Social Club in Sunderland on October 20, 1979. Michael "Olga" Algar soon took over lead vocal duties while continuing to play guitar. The Toy Dolls released their debut album Dig That Groove Baby in March 1983, marking a significant milestone in their career. The band continued with albums such as Far Out Disc (1985), Idle Gossip (1986), and Bare Faced Cheek (1987). Notable songs include "Nellie the Elephant" (ranked number 4 on the UK Singles Chart), "She Goes to Finos" and "Drooling Banjos", which became fan favourites due to their energetic live performances. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Toy Dolls released a series of albums, including Wakey Wakey (1989), Fat Bob's Feet (1990), Absurd-Ditties (1993), Orcastrated (1995), and One More Megabyte (1997). They also embarked on extensive tours, maintaining a strong live presence even during periods without label support. In the 21st century, they continued to release albums such as Our Last Album? (2004), The Album After the Last One (2012), and Episode XIII (2019). Subsequent releases include Live from Hell! Recorded at Hellfest (2023) and the compilation The Singles (2024).
