Toorama, was a traditional music group from Saransk, Mordovia in Russia. Formed in 1990 by four researchers of Mordvin language and traditions, Torama initially consisted of a choir of nine men. The ensemble focused on performing traditional songs and music of the Mordvin ethnic groups, including Erzya, Moksha, Shoksha, and Qaratay. Vladimir Romashkin, a researcher and documentary filmmaker, emerged as the group's frontman. In 1996, Torama released their debut album Mordvin Songs, featuring traditional Erzya songs recorded in Finland. The group continued to release albums, including collaborations such as Mastorava with Finnish choir MeNaiset in 2001 and Godspeed in 2002. Torama's work significantly contributed to the preservation of the Finno-Ugric singing tradition, particularly polyphonic singing. Vladimir Romashkin died in 2002.
