Biography

Tony Murena was a virtuoso accordionist and composer who became a central figure in the French musette and swing scenes. He began performing publicly at age nine and established himself in prominent cabarets, later recording extensively for the Odéon label. His enduring musical legacy is anchored by the 1942 release of the classic tracks "Indifférence" and "Passion," which remain standards of the genre. Throughout his career, he collaborated with fellow masters such as Gus Viseur and Jo Privat, contributing to the "swing à bretelles" style that blended traditional accordion music with jazz. His recorded output includes works such as Vintage Jazz No. 103 – EP: Accordion à Paris (1956), alongside posthumous collections like Fête de musette (2004) and Swing Accordion – Le swing à bretelles (2006).
