Biography

Michel Macias, born on July 22, 1960, in Fumel, Lot-et-Garonne, France, is a French accordionist. He began playing the accordion at age ten, influenced by his grandfather and father, both musicians. Macias' early education included improvisation techniques derived from musette methods. In 1984, he met Bernard Lubat, inspiring him to re-examine his compositions. He played with various groups and formed his own ensembles. Macias' career advanced significantly in 1989 with the show La Révolution en dansant. In 1996, he released his debut album Danse t'es vivant, featuring Didier Roussin on guitar. Subsequent albums include Caïcaïcaï (2000), Tout et son contraire (2005), and En Attendant (2014). His 2018 album L'Amuseur won the Prix Gus Viseur 2019. Macias has performed extensively across Europe, Africa, North America, and South America, blending dance and concert performances in what he termed "bal concertant" (concerted ball).
