Biography

Founded in 2009 by bassist and composer Dan Berglund (born in Pilgrimstad, Jämtland, Sweden on May 5, 1963), Tonbruket is a crossover quartet that also features a trio of musicians that were not previously associated with the jazz scene: drummer Andreas Werliin, guitarist Johan Lindström, and keyboardist Martin Hederos. Before forming the group, Dan Berglund was a member of popular jazz group the Esbjörn Svensson Trio – also referred to as e.s.t. – which was led by pianist Esbjörn Svensson. After Svensson’s death in a scuba diving accident in 2008, Dan Berglund formed Tonbruket. The group released their debut album, Dan Berglund’s Tonbruket, in 2009. The group’s mix of jazz, ambient, and rock introduced a new sound and energy to the music scene and gave way to more albums like Dig It to the End (2010), Nubium Swimtrip (2013), Forevergreens (2016), Live Salvation (2018), and Masters of Fog (2019). In 2020, Tonbruket collaborated with guitarist Christian Kjellvander on the album Doom County.
