Biography

Toby Beau, an American soft-rock band from Texas, were formed in the early 1970s. The original line-up comprised guitarists Danny McKenna, Balde Silva, Art Mendoza, bassist Steve Zipper, and drummer Rob Young. After numerous club performances around South Texas, Toby Beau moved to San Antonio and secured a recording contract with RCA Records. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1978, featuring the hit single "My Angel Baby", which reached number one on the Easy Listening Chart and Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. The band toured extensively with artists such as the Doobie Brothers and Bob Seger. Following the success of their debut, Toby Beau released More Than a Love Song in 1979, which included the single "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye". However, internal conflicts led to several members leaving the band. Balde Silva took over leadership and released the third album, If You Believe, in 1980. Despite RCA dropping the band after this release, Toby Beau continued to perform on the club circuit. Danny McKenna passed away in April 2006 at age 54.
