The second hip-hop signing to Sub Pop, Nirvana's legendary label, THEESatisfaction is a duo of female rappers and singers from Seattle. Stasia Irons and Catherine Harris-White met while studying together in 2006. After much experimentation, they formed THEESatisfaction in 2008 and released two self-produced EPs, Transitions in November 2010 and Sandra Bollock Black Baby in March 2011. Spotted by Shabazz Palaces, a rap group from Seattle's burgeoning creative scene, they took part in the recording of Black UP in June 2011. The group's true mentor, Ishmael Butler (renamed Palaceer Lazaro within Shabazz Palaces), appears as a duo on two tracks on awE naturalE, the first full-length album fromTHEESatisfaction. Released on March 26, 2012 in the U.S., the group is making a name for itself as much for its artistic quality as for this atypical duo of African-American lesbian rappers with an unlikely look. In March 2015, the duo returned to their soul-tinged alternative rap on their second album EarthEE.
