Biography
The Stars of Heaven were an Irish guitar pop band formed in Dublin in 1983 by Stephen Ryan, Stan Erraught, Peter O'Sullivan, and Bernard Walsh. Their debut single, "Clothes of Pride", received airplay from John Peel and led to a signing with Rough Trade Records. The band released their first album, Sacred Heart Hotel, in 1986, which reached number 11 on the UK Independent Chart. They continued to gain traction with subsequent releases, including "Never Saw You" and The Holyhead EP (1987), which peaked at number five on the independent chart. Their second album, Speak Slowly, was released in 1988 and reached number six on the UK Independent Chart. The band disbanded shortly after this release. Notable songs include "The Lights of Tetouan", inspired by Ryan's childhood memories of Spain. In 2009, their two albums were made available as a free download from the Independent Records website.
