The Sound of Hush, a Danish pop duo consisting of singer Dorthe Gerlach and guitarist Michael Hartmann, began their musical journey in 1997. The duo initially formed with three other musicians, playing a more energetic rock style before transitioning to a calmer sound by 2000. They moved to Copenhagen and gained attention through radio rotation and a movie appearance, leading to a showcase in London in 2002 where they met their future manager Jonathan Morley. This connection led to a trip to Nashville in 2003, solidifying their unique musical expression. In 2004, The Sound of Hush released their debut album A Lifetime, which sold 20,000 copies in Denmark and earned them a European Border Breaker award for significant sales outside their home country. Their subsequent albums included For All the Right Reasons (2007), and Backroads (2008). Notable singles include "Lovestruck" from 2005, which was featured in a European commercial for Volkswagen's Polo. The duo toured extensively, supporting acts such as Turin Brakes, Stephen Fretwell, Jamie Cullum, and Runrig. They were nominated for five categories at the 2005 Danish Music Awards but did not win any awards.
