Biography

The Sentinals were a surf rock band from San Luis Obispo, California. The group was active from 1961 to 1965 and included notable members such as drummer John Barbata and keyboardist Lee Michaels. In 1962, they toured extensively, opening for acts like The Coasters and The Righteous Brothers. Their debut album Big Surf was released in 1963 on Del-Fi Records. The band incorporated a distinctive Latin influence into their music, as heard in tracks like “Latin'ia” (1962). In 1984, the Sentinals reunited for a live performance at the San Luis Obispo Officer's Club. Their music was later featured on compilations such as Big Surf Hits (1996), which included their track “Big Surf”.
