Biography
The Rowans, also known as The Rowan Brothers, are an American country-rock band from Massachusetts, formed by brothers Chris and Lorin Rowan, who moved to San Francisco in 1970 to pursue music. The brothersâ breakthrough came in 1971 when they opened for the Grateful Dead. In 1972, they released their first album, Rowan Brothers, followed by The Rowans in 1975, Sibling Rivalry in 1976, and Jubilation in 1977, all under the name The Rowans. These albums featured collaborations with prominent musicians such as Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. Peter Rowan, who joined his brothers for their second, third, and fourth albums, later left to pursue bluegrass music. In 1993, his group, Peter Rowan & The Rowan Brothers, released Tree on a Hill. Chris and Lorin continued playing as a duo, with Peter sometimes joining. In 2004, they released Now and Then.
