Biography

The Monday Night Orchestra is an American jazz ensemble formed under the leadership of Gil Evans. The band derived its name from their Monday night concerts performed at Sweet Basil, a jazz club in Greenwich Village. Notable performances featured collaborations with artists such as Mick Jagger, Gerry Mulligan, Michael Caine, and Jaco Pastorius. The Monday Night Orchestra released several albums, including Live At Sweet Basil (1985), Live At Sweet Basil Vol.2 (1986), Bud And Bird (Live At Sweet Basil) (1987), and Farewell - Live At Sweet Basil (1988). After Gil Evans' death in 1988, the orchestra posthumously recognized him through releases such as Playing The Music Of Gil Evans Live At Sweet Basil (1993).
