The Starlets are an American girl group from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1961, the group initially consisted of Jane Hall, Maxine Edwards, Mickey McKinney, Jeannette Miles, and Liz Walker (also known as Dynetta Boone). Their breakthrough came when they auditioned for Chicago songwriter Bernice Williams, who wrote "Better Tell Him No" for them. Released on Pam Records in 1961, the single peaked at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. The group then embarked on tours with notable artists such as Jackie Wilson, Mary Wells, and Gladys Knight & the Pips. Following their initial success, The Starlets released "My Last Cry" but it did not achieve the same level of popularity. In December 1961, while performing in Philadelphia, they recorded "I Sold My Heart to the Junkman" for Newtown Records under the name The BlueBelles due to contractual issues with Pam Records. This song became a hit, leading to a lawsuit against Newtown Records owner Harold Robinson, which was settled for Five Thousand Dollars per member. The Starlets then moved to Okeh Records, releasing "You Belong to Me" under the name Dynetta and the Starlets in 1962 before disbanding shortly thereafter.
