Biography

The Hennessys, a Welsh folk group, were formed in 1966 in Cardiff by Frank Hennessy and Dave Burns. They won a talent competition organized by Cardiff City Council and added Paul Powell on banjo and vocals shortly after. The band began incorporating traditional Welsh language songs into their repertoire following travels to Ireland for wider musical experience. Their career took off with regular television appearances, stage performances throughout Wales, and several album releases. Notable songs include "Farewell To The Rhondda," "Tiger Bay," and "Cardiff Born." The group's discography includes Who Will Cast a Stone? Songs for the Miners Strike 1972 (EP - 1972), Rhyddid Yn Ein Cân (EP - 1973), and Y Caneuon Cynnar / The Early Songs (album - 1993).
