Biography

The Helsinki Strings is a string youth orchestra from Helsinki, Finland. The orchestra was founded in 1972 by Géza and Csaba Szilvay, who conducted it until their retirement in 2010. The present conductor is Jukka Rantamäki. The group’s debut recording, Kaamos / Polar Night – Works For Orchestra (1993), was followed by Contrasts (1996), Transfigured Night (2002), Death And The Maiden (2003), and Nordic Sounds (2006).
