Biography

The Happy Disharmonists is a German mixed pop choir from Berlin founded in 1985 by Carsten Gerlitz. They initially formed from the music advanced course of the 1984 graduating class at Georg-Herwegh-Oberschule in Berlin-Hermsdorf and presented their own arrangements inspired by groups like The King's Singers and the Comedian Harmonists. They performed on various Berlin stages, made television appearances including shows hosted by Thomas Gottschalk, and collaborated as background vocalists for artists like Frau Suurbier. They received a record deal with Meisel Musikverlagen and released the debut single "Sentimental Journey" (1987), followed by the first full-length album, The Happy Disharmonists (1990). They received the cultural award "Bonzo" from the district of Berlin-Reinickendorf in 1995. Other notable albums include Irgendwo auf der Welt (1991), Cantus Filmus (1995), Jazzissimo Live (1996), Hartchor (2000), and Peter und der Wolf (2003).
