The Foreign Exchange is a music duo consisting of the American rapper Phonte and the Dutch record producer Nicolay. Their music is a blend of hip hop, soul, R&B, and electronica. The duo's initial collaboration began when Phonte discovered one of Nicolay's instrumentals on Okayplayer.com and requested permission to rap over it, leading to the creation of "Light It Up" for Little Brother's single Whatever You Say. Their album, Connected, was released in 2004. The duo's second album, Leave It All Behind (2008), marked a shift towards R&B and included the Grammy-nominated track "Daykeeper". In 2010, they achieved their first entry into the Billboard 200 with Authenticity, reaching number 145. The duo continued to release albums, including Love in Flying Colors (2013), which peaked at number 115 on the Billboard 200, Tales from the Land of Milk and Honey (2015), and Hide & Seek (2017).
