Biography

The career of neo-soul performer Rahsaan Patterson, born January 11, 1974, contains achievements in a variety of roles. His first big break came at the age of 11 when he started a four-year run as The Kid on Kids Incorporated, singing popular songs alongside fellow child castmates including Stacy Ferguson and Marta Marrero (the future Martika). When the show ended he sang back-up on a variety of recordings, including Martika’s 1988 hit single “Toy Soldiers”. He co-wrote Brandy’s “Baby”, a number one R&B smash as well as a number 4 crossover hit in 1994. Patteron’s self-titled debut came out in 1997, and climbed into the top 50 of the R&B album chart helped by the single “Where Are You”. He continued to work as a producer and songwriter for other artists before Love In Stereo was released in 1999. It continued a consistent pattern where his loyal fan base would assure the album would land on the R&B chart, but the singles failed to make a dent on the charts. That would hold true for future releases like After Hours and Wines & Spirits. 2011’s Bleuphoria was his first album to crack the R&B top 40, powered by cameos from singers such as Jody Watley and Faith Evans. After his longest layoff between projects, Patterson issued Heroes & Gods in 2019.
