The Coathangers, an all-female punk rock/garage band from Atlanta, Georgia, was formed in 2006 by Julia Kugel-Montoya (vocals/guitar), Meredith Franco (bass), and Stephanie Luke (vocals/drums). Initially including keyboardist Candice Jones, who departed in 2013, the band adopted a provocative name reflecting their pro-choice stance.
Their journey began with a 7-inch record on Die Slaughterhaus and their self-titled debut on Rob's House Records. Their second album, Scramble (2009), marked their growing presence, followed by Larceny & Old Lace (2011). Julia Kugel also pursued a solo project, White Woods, releasing two singles in 2012 and 2013.
The breakthrough Suck My Shirt (2014) brought critical acclaim and collaborations with Mastodon. Nosebleed Weekend (2016) reached #149 on the Billboard 200, supported by a U.S. tour with Refused. They released the Parasite EP (2017) and Live (2018). Their sixth album, The Devil You Know, arrived in 2019, continuing their punk legacy.
