The Charmaines were an American female vocal trio from Cincinnati, Ohio. The group consisted of Gigi Jackson, Irene Vinegar, and Dee Watkins. Jackson began her career in a family band called the Jackson Sisters before forming The Charmaines. Their first single, "Rockinâ Old Man", was released in late 1960. As backing vocalists for King Records, they supported artists such as Conway Twitty and James Brown. In 1961, their song "What Kind of Girl (Do You Think I Am)" reached number 117 on the Billboard chart. The group also recorded with Columbia and other labels, including Canadian imprints, Red Leaf and RCA Canada. In 2006, a compilation of their 1960s recordings was issued by Ace Records. Irene Vinegar passed away on June 20, 2021, at the age of 80.
