Biography

The Brown University Band, founded in 1924 by Irving Harris, is the official band of Brown University who quickly became an integral part of the school's spirit and traditions. They gained prominence for their unique ice-skating performances in 1970 and also became known for their humorous antics, including creating buttons with witty messages for football games. The band has released several albums, including Dusky (1993), 75th Season (2000), and A Collection of Music by the Brown Band (2006). Their repertoire also included original compositions like "Ever True to Brown" and "In the Fray", pop songs such as "You Can Call Me Al" and "Pompeii", and traditional pieces.
