Biography

The Brass Ring is an American popular music group of the 1960s, led by saxophonist and arranger Phil Bodner. Based in New York City, the band's style was similar to other "Now Sound" instrumental pop groups of the era, such as The Tijuana Brass and The Brass Buttons. Their debut release was the single "Guantanamera" in 1966, followed by their first full-length album, Love Theme From The Flight Of The Phoenix, which featured the single "Love Theme from the Flight of the Phoenix". This track, used in the movie The Flight of the Phoenix, reached number 32 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 that same year. The group's second hit single, "The Dis-Advantages of You", written by Mitch Leigh and featured in commercials for Benson & Hedges cigarettes, peaked at number 36 in March 1967. Throughout their career, The Brass Ring released several albums, including Anna, Sunday Night At The Movies, and Gazpacho. They also recorded until at least 1972 on Enoch Light's Project 3 label, with notable singles like "Love In The Open Air", a cover of a composition by Paul McCartney.
