Biography
The Aquatones, an American doo-wop group, was formed in Valley Stream, New York, in 1956 as the Rhythm Kings, and initially included Dave Goddard, Larry Vannata, and Gene McCarthy. They added Lynne Nixon, a soprano with operatic training, as their lead vocalist shortly after. Their breakthrough came with the single "You", released on Fargo Records in 1958, which entered Billboard Hot 100, and which notably appeared on Martin Scorseseâs film Mean Streets (1973). The group's subsequent releases did not achieve the same success. In 1964, they released their debut album Sing For "You". After disbanding in 1964, the Aquatones reformed in 1998 with Colette Delaney as the new lead singer and released several albums on Debra Records. Lynne Nixon passed away in January 2001.
