Biography

Teemu Viinikainen, born in 1975 in Hankasalmi, Finland, is a guitarist and composer known for his contributions to jazz music. He began playing the guitar at age seven and studied at the Helsinki Pop & Jazz Konservatorio before completing his Master's degree at the Sibelius-Akademie. Viinikainen gained recognition in the early 2000s as part of the U-Street All Stars, who won a jazz competition in Gexto, Spain. Viinikainen's career includes collaborations with notable ensembles and international artists such as Joe Lovano, Tim Hagans, and Randy Brecker. His debut album, Tales of Robert Dickson, was released in 2005 under the KSJAZZ label. In 2022, Viinikainen released his fifth solo album, Songs of Silence, under Eclipse Music. He has also worked with the UMO Jazz Orchestra and authored the textbook Rytmi elää. His awards include the Yrjö Prize from the Finnish Jazz Federation and a Sony Jazz Award.
