Technohead, a British electronic music group, was formed in 1985 by Michael Wells and Lee Newman. The duo met at the Royal College of Art in London and initially released their first album, Kill the Pedagogue, on cassette under the name Greater Than One. In the late 1980s, they founded their own label, Kunst=Kapital, and released several albums. Their breakthrough came with the single "Pure" as Tricky Disco, which reached number 14 on the UK Singles Chart in July 1990. To avoid media saturation, Wells and Newman used multiple stage names, including GTO, John + Julie, Church of Extacy, and Technohead. Under the name Technohead, their first EP, The Passion, was released in 1993. The following year saw the release of "Jetset / Accelerator" and the EP Headsex, which included the hit single "I Wanna Be a Hippy". This track topped charts across Europe and was accompanied by a notable music video featuring members of the future group Party Animals. Tragically, Lee Newman passed away on August 4, 1995, from skin cancer, just days before the release of the album Headsex. Despite this loss, Michael Wells continued to release music under various names, including The Man and S.O.L.O., but Technohead's "I Wanna Be a Hippy" remains their signature track.
