Biography

The classical violinist Tasmin Little is the daughter of the English actor George Little. Born in London, Little joined the class of 1973 after she won a scholarship to the Yehudi Menuhin School; among her fellow alumni was Nigel Kennedy. In 1982 she was a finalist in the ultra competive BBC Young Musician of the Year competition and went on to attend the acclaimed Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her first professional performance came with Manchester's Halle Orchestra in 1988 and two years later she appeared at The BBC Proms as a soloist. Since then she has enjoyed a busy professional career working regularly with the Royal Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic. During her career she has released over 20 albums and has long been a devotee of the works of the Bradford-born composer Frederick Delius. Little was the artistic director of a festival celebrating the life and works of Delius in Bradford and has has hosted a BBC documentary about the composer. In 2012 she was awarded an OBE for her services to music.
