Biography

Tasha Thomas, born circa 1945 in Alaska, was an American singer known for her soulful voice and versatile performances. Her breakthrough came with her role as Aunt Em in the original Broadway production of The Wiz, where her rendition of "The Feeling We Once Had" earned critical acclaim. In 1972, Thomas contributed backup vocals to Jim Croce's debut album You Don't Mess Around With Jim. She also provided backing vocals for Slade's 1976 album Nobody's Fools and Kiss' 1977 album Love Gun. In 1978, producers James R. Glaser and Peter Rugile signed Thomas to Orbit Record Productions, leading to the release of her international dance hit "Shoot Me (With Your Love)". This success prompted a move to Atlantic Records for her debut solo album Midnight Rendezvous, released in 1979. The album included the track "Shoot Me (With Your Love)", which peaked at number 91 on the U.S. Pop chart, number 25 on the R&B chart, and number 59 on the UK chart. Following the album's release, Thomas appeared on various television shows, including Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, Soul Train, The Merv Griffin Show, The Midnight Special, and Dance Fever. "Shoot Me (With Your Love)" was nominated for "Best R&B Single of the Year" at the 1979 BMA Awards. Thomas passed away from cancer in October 1984, at the age of 39.
