Tarmac Adam is an Australian pop band formed in 2001 by singer-songwriter Matt O'Donnell. The Melbourne-based group includes Nick Seymour on bass, Ruben Alexander on drums, Josh Barber on percussion, and Steve Paix on keyboards and saxophone. Tarmac Adam originated from a solo recording project that O'Donnell began planning around the year 2000. In 2003, the band released their debut album Handheld Torch, which was self-funded by O'Donnell after unsuccessful attempts to secure a record deal. The album featured contributions from Crowded House members Nick Seymour and Paul Hester. Following Hester's death in March 2005 and Seymour's return to Crowded House in 2007, Tarmac Adam continued with a lineup that included O'Donnell, Paix, Barber, Alexander, and Seymour. Their sophomore album The History Effect was released in 2013, followed by In Place in October 2015.
