Biography

Dutch musician and actor Taco Ockerse, known simply as Taco, was born on 21 July 1955 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He started his career in Germany, signing his first record contract with Polydor in West Germany in 1982 and releasing his debut single "Puttin' On the Ritz", which became a global hit. The song was issued by RCA Records for US release and peaked at number four on the Hot 100 in September 1983, earning him a Gold certification for selling over one million copies. His subsequent album, After Eight, was released in over 40 countries and reached significant chart positions worldwide. Taco toured extensively throughout Europe in 1983 and 1984, with "Puttin' On the Ritz" topping the charts in Sweden and New Zealand. He continued to release albums such as Let's Face the Music (1984), Swing Classics: In the Mood of Glenn Miller (1985). In 1987, he released a self-titled album. Between 1989 and 1996, Taco focused on acting. Moving into the 21st century, he continued to perform and release new recordings, including a re-recording of "Puttin' On the Ritz" in 2010.
