Biography

Swinging Popsicle are a Japanese indie pop and rock ensemble from Tokyo formed in 1995. The group was established by vocalist Mineko Fujishima, guitarist Osamu Shimada, and bassist Hironobu Hirata, who met through a newspaper advertisement. They achieved professional recognition in 1996 after contributing to a Pony Canyon compilation album. Their recording career began with the debut indie extended play Sunny Silent Park E.P. (1997), which reached Number 2 on the HMV Shibuya charts. They released the studio recording Swinging Popsicle (1998) followed by the studio recording Fennec! (2000), which featured the track “Satetsu no Tou” (1999). The recording served as the character image song for Akiha Tohno in the visual novel game Tsukihime. Their discography includes the studio recordings Transit (2004), Go On (2007), and Loud Cut (2009). The ensemble performed internationally at FanimeCon Musicfest in San Jose, California, in 2006. Their discography includes the studio recording Flow (2015).
