Swami LatePlate is an American Dark Jazz duo from New York City, established in 2007. The ensemble consists of Bobby Previte (drums) and Jamie Saft (piano, organ, Mellotron), both of whom previously participated in John Zorn's Masada project. The duo was formed with the specific objective of using Doom Metal as a structural blueprint for jazz compositions. The duo recorded its debut studio album, Dark Jazz, at Saftâs studio, Frank Booth, featuring guest bassist John Redcorn. The record was released in 2007 through Veal Records and later reissued in 2021 by the Italian label Subsound Records. In 2012, Veal Records published an edited version of the album. The group's second studio album, Doom Jazz II, was released in 2023 through Subsound Records.
