Biography

Suzy Delair was a French actress, dancer and singer who appeared in several movies from 1931 and gained fame when director Henri-Georges Clouzot cast her in his feature films 'The Last One of the Six' (1941) and 'The Murderer Lives at Number 21' (1942). She performed the song 'Avec son tra-la-la' in Clouzot's 'Quai des Orfèvres' (1947) and she starred opposite Laurel & Hardy in their 1947 film 'Utopia'. She survived being tainted by associating with Nazis during the World War II Paris occupation and appeared in a long list of films and French television shows including the miniseries 'Le mythomane' (1981) and 'L'âge vermeil' (1984) and the series 'Traquenards' (1987). In 1948, during the Nice Jazz Festival, she performed the song 'C'est si Bon' with music by Henri Betti and lyrics by André Hornez. Louis Armstrong recorded it with English lyrics by Jerry Seelen and it went on to be recorded by a vast number of singers and heard on the soundtrack of a great many films. She died aged 102 on March 15th, 2020.
