Biography

Superfly, fronted by vocalist Shiho Ochi, debuted in 2007 with the single “Hello Hello” and quickly rose to fame. Their self-titled first album (2008) debuted at No. 1 on Oricon, launching a consistent string of chart-topping releases: Box Emotions (2009), Mind Travel (2011), Force (2012), and the best‐of Superfly BEST (2013). The 2015 album WHITE featured “Beautiful” earning Superfly their first appearance on NHK’s prestigious Kōhaku Uta Gassen. Celebrating their 10th anniversary in 2017, Superfly released a fan-compiled greatest hits album that also hit No. 1. They continued their success in 2018 with singles “Bloom” and “Gifts”, the latter serving as the designated song for NHK’s junior high school choir competition. Their 2019 single “Flare” became the theme for the NHK morning drama Scarlet, marking their fourth consecutive appearance on Kōhaku. After a five-year gap, 2020 brought the album 0, largely written and composed by Ochi herself. During the pandemic, she released the introspective single “Together” and began an essay series titled Utano Tane. Superfly performed at Kōhaku for a fifth time that year. In June 2025, Superfly released “Amazing”, their first-ever cover album. Featuring heartfelt renditions of iconic J-pop tracks, it was followed by teasers, a first national hall tour in nearly two decades, and live performances on NHK’s SONGS, showcasing Ochi’s deep, expressive vocals.
