Biography

Bonnie Pink is the stage name of Japanese singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Kaori Asada. She was born in Nantan, Kyoto, on April 16, 1973, and released her debut album, Blue Jam, in 1995. Two years later, Heaven's Kitchen marked the beginning of her fruitful partnership with The Cardigans' Tore Johansson, who quickly became her go-to producer. The album climbed to Number 8 in Japan and went platinum, while 1998's gold-selling Evil and Flowers peaked at Number 4. The Evil and Flowers single "Inu to Tsuki" became Bonnie Pink's first Top 20 hit, while the non-album single "Daisy" climbed to Number 1 one year later. Following releases like 2000's Let Go, 2001's Just a Girl, 2003's Present, 2004's Even So, and 2005's Golden Tears, she hit a new level of popularity during the mid-aughts. "A Perfect Sky," from 2007's Thinking Out Loud, became a double-platinum hit, followed by the Top 10 hits "Anything for You," "Water Me," and "Ring a Bell" during the next two years. She remained a commercial success with 2009's One and 2010's Dear Diary, both of which cracked the Top 10 in Japan, and scored yet another Top 10 single in 2012 with Chasing Hope's "Tsumetai Ame."
