Stoney & Meatloaf were an American soul rock duo from Detroit established in 1971. The group consisted of the musicians Meat Loaf and Shaun Murphy. They achieved professional recognition after meeting as performers in the Detroit cast of the stage production Hair. Their recording career began with the debut studio recording Stoney & Meatloaf (1971). The ensemble achieved professional recognition for the track âWhat You See Is What You Getâ (1971). The duo became inactive in 1972 after the label Motown replaced their vocals on the track âWho Is the Leader of the People?â with the musician Edwin Starr. Meat Loaf achieved professional recognition for a solo career including several platinum studio recordings. Murphy achieved professional recognition for membership in the touring ensemble for the musician Eric Clapton (1985) and becoming the lead vocalist for the ensemble Little Feat (1993). Their recording career included the remastered compilation recording Everything Under the Sun: The Motown Recordings (2022).
