Biography

Steve Eaves (born 1952 in Stoke-on-Trent, England) was a Welsh poet, songwriter, and singer performing in the Welsh language. Eaves initiated a musical career in the late 1960s at folk clubs and underground venues across the United Kingdom. In the early 1980s, Eaves published the poetry volumes Noethni (1983) and Jazz yn y nos (1986). He adapted his poetic work into music, forming the ensemble Triawd, which evolved into the group Rhai Pobl. His discography included the albums Viva la Revolucion Galesa! (1984), Cyfalaf a chyfaddawd (1985), and Moelyci (2007). Eaves integrated blues, jazz, and folk influences into his songs, which frequently addressed left-wing activism and the Welsh language movement. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Open University in 2014 and received a PhD from Cardiff University in 2015.
