Biography

State Radio was a Boston-based rock trio formed in 2002 in Sherborn, Massachusetts. The trio consisted of Chad Stokes Urmston on vocals and guitar, Chuck Fay on bass, and Michael Najarian on drums. Initially known as Flag of the Shiners, they released their debut EP, Flag of the Shiners, later that year. After a hiatus due to Urmston's throat surgery, State Radio returned with the acoustic-infused EP Simmer Kane. Their first full-length album, Us Against the Crown, was released in 2006. In 2007, they released their second album, Year of the Crow, and opened for Dave Matthews Band in 2008. State Radio's activism included founding Calling All Crows to promote human rights and collaborating with Oxfam America on relief efforts. Their fourth album, Rabbit Inn Rebellion, was released in 2012. The band won Best Social Action Song from the 9th Annual Independent Music Awards for "Calling All Crows" in 2010.
