Biography
Soulwax, a Belgian electronic music band and DJ/production collective, was formed in 1995 in Ghent. The group is centered around brothers David and Stephen Dewaele, with other members including Igor and Laima Cavalera, and Stefaan Van Leuven. Soulwax gained prominence following the release of their album Much Against Everyone's Advice in 1998. Their early singles included "Kill Your Darlings" (1996) and "Saturday" (1999). The band released albums Leave the Story Untold (1996) and Much Against Everyone's Advice (1998). In 2004, they released "E Talking" from their album Any Minute Now, which sparked controversy due to its music video. Soulwax produced numerous remixes for artists such as Daft Punk, LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz, and Tiga. Their compilation mixtape/mashup album As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 (2002) was named the best popular music album of 2002 by The New York Times. In 2016, they returned with a new live show and the soundtrack album Belgica for the film of the same name. Some albums followed, including From Deewee (2017), Essential (2018), and All Systems Are Lying (2025).
