Biography

Duncan Sumpner, known professionally as Songs Of Green Pheasant, is a singer and recording artist from Heaton Mersey, Stockport, England. In the mid-late 1990s, Sumpner recorded several demos with fellow musician Oliver Bird under various names such as Redman Greenman and Kill This Love, though these tracks remain unreleased. His solo project, Songs Of Green Pheasant, began in earnest with the release of his self-titled debut album Songs Of Green Pheasant in 2005 via FatCat Records. This was followed by Aerial Days (2006) and Gyllyng Street (2007), both also released under FatCat Records. Sumpner's music is characterized by its blend of acoustic-based songs with electronic effects, often described as "psychedelic folk" with "warm washes of sound." His later releases include Soft Wounds (2012) and When the Weather Clears (2020), both released under Rusted Rail.
