Son Boricua, a US musical group based in New York, was founded by Jose Mangual Jr. The ensemble is known for its blend of Latin music and world music genres, particularly salsa and mambo. Their debut album Son Boricua was released in 1998 under Caiman Records. The group's lineup included Jimmy Sabater on timbales and vocals until his death in 2012. Notable albums include Mo, released in 2002, and Clásicos 60's (2002). Their music encompasses both original compositions and covers, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Puerto Rico and Cuba. The group's name combines "Son," a Cuban musical genre, with "Boricua," meaning Puerto Rican.
