Biography
Richard Mowatt, known professionally as Solarstone, is a British DJ and trance music producer from Birmingham. Born on October 20, 1972, he began his musical journey in 1994 as part of the trio Space Kittens. In 1997, Mowatt founded the music project Solarstone with Andy Bury and Sam Tierney. Solarstone's breakthrough came with the release of "Seven Cities" in 1999, which peaked at number 39 on the UK Singles Chart and became one of the earliest examples of Balearic trance. The song has been re-released three times and sold over 500,000 copies. In 2006, Mowatt became the sole member of Solarstone following the departures of Bury and Tierney. Throughout his career, Solarstone has released several notable albums including Anthology One (2006), Rain Stars Eternal (2008), and Touchstone (2010). He has also collaborated with artists such as Scott Bond, Paul Oakenfold, and Thea Riley. In 2014, Solarstone began the PureNRG collaboration project with Giuseppe Ottaviani. Solarstone has been featured on DJ Mag's Top 100 list in 2008 and 2013. He has also produced numerous remixes for artists including Paul Oakenfold, Radiohead, and Armin Van Buuren. Solarstone's radio shows, such as The Deep Blue Radioshow (2005-2008) and Solaris International Radio Show (2004-2015), have been influential in the trance music scene. In 2015, he launched Pure Trance Radio. Throughout the 2020s, Solarstone remained active through releases like Island (2020) and Innermost (2025).
