Sofie Fatouretchi Royer, known professionally as Sofie Royer, was born on August 9, 1991, in California to Iranian and Austrian parents, and is a musician and visual artist. She began her musical studies at the Vienna Conservatoire but later withdrew from the institution. Royer's early involvement included roles at Boiler Room and NTS Radio. During her time in Los Angeles, she worked at Stones Throw Records, releasing her compilation Sofie's SOS Tape in 2016. In 2020, Royer released her self-produced debut album, Cult Survivor. Her second album, Harlequin, was announced with the single "Feeling Bad Forsyth Street" and released in 2022. The album blended nostalgia for early aughts reality television and American mall punk subculture with her passion for Vienna's opera traditions. Royer has collaborated with various musicians, including Toro y Moi.
