Biography

Slim and the Supreme Angels, originally The Supreme Angels, was an American traditional black gospel music group from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Formed in 1953 by young ministers, Reverend Howard "Slim" Hunt joined as a guitarist and later became the lead singer, renaming the group to Slim & the Supreme Angels. Notable members included Robert "Sugar" Hightower on guitar and vocals. The group released seventeen albums between 1956 and 2007 under labels like Melendo Records and Malaco Records. Hunt founded the Deliverance Temple in 1986. Their chart successes include Death and the Beautiful Lady (1988), which peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart, Stay Under the Blood (1995) at number 16, and Nobody But You (1996) at number 36. He continued to tour until his death on February 25, 2007. Hightower took over leadership before passing away on August 24, 2010.
