UK musical group SL2, from London, England, formed in 1985. The trio consisted of DJ Matt "Slipmatt" Nelson and John "Lime" Fernández, along with rapper Jason "Jay-J" James. Initially immersed in the hip-hop scene during their teenage years, SL2 transitioned to the burgeoning rave culture. Their breakthrough came in 1989 when they became resident DJs for the Raindance promoter, leading to their first single "Do That Dance" released through B-Ware Records. In 1991, SL2 launched their own label, Awesome Records, releasing "DJ's Take Control", which caught the attention of XL Recordings. XL re-released "DJ's Take Control", propelling it to number 11 on the UK charts. The group's collaboration with dancers Jo Millett and Kelly Overett further boosted their popularity. Their hit "On A Ragga Tip" reached number 2 in the UK in 1992, staying on the charts for 11 weeks and crossing over to European rankings. Despite internal disagreements leading to their disbandment at the end of 1993, SL2 reunited in 1997 following a remix resurgence of "On A Ragga Tip". The group continued to DJ semi-regularly without releasing new material. In July 2015, XL Recordings reissued remastered versions on EP titled The SL2 EP.
