Sipho Mabuse is a South African singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who was born in 1951. Known professionally as âHotstixâ, he began a musical career as a drummer in the Afro-soul group The Beaters, which later changed its name to Harari. He achieved professional recognition as a pioneer of township pop and launched a solo career in 1982. Mabuse is famous for the crossover hit âBurn Outâ (1983), which sold over 500,000 copies, and the single âJive Sowetoâ (1986). His discography includes the studio recordings Rise (1984), Chant of the Marching (1989), and Township Child (1998). For his contributions to music, he received a South African Music Award Lifetime Achievement Award (2005) and the Silver Order of Ikhamanga (2018).
